Meet Julia, Mom On The Run

Physiotherapist (BA HKin, MScPT)
Hi! I'm Julia, the mom behind Mom on the Run. I am a VDOT Certified Run Coach, Physiotherapist, Mom of two, and Runner. I love being active, and I especially love being outside. One of my favourite things to do is explore the outdoors with my kids, and I really enjoy taking them on runs with me.
The Mom on the Run Club all started when…
… I had my first baby and wanted to return to running. Being a physiotherapist and run coach, I had a pretty good idea how best to do this for my personal situation. However, when I was chatting with my mom friends about running after having a baby, I realized there were many different ideas about, well... everything, including:
When is it recommended to begin running (immediately after delivery? 6 weeks? 12 weeks? after your physician says it's okay?)
How exactly to best begin running after having a baby (just start right where you left off before you had your baby, do a couch to 5k program, "you don't need to do extra strengthening", etc).
What was normal or you just 'had to accept' now that you had a baby (leaking when you run, pelvic pain, low back pain, to name a few)
I wanted to provide a resource that had information on all of these topics in one place, so that women could feel confident they were making the best decisions for themselves and their bodies. Helping as many women as possible navigate their postpartum running journeys is how Mom on the Run was born!
The name Mom on the Run is also a nod to how incredibly busy it can be when you have a child, or multiple children - it does truly feel like you are often on the run to do something! It can seem like there aren't enough hours in the day to look after yourself, much less go for a run or do a workout. For this reason, I wanted to give as many options as I could for busy moms trying to fit running and exercising into their days. Mom on the Run is all about doing the best you can with what you have available to you at the time.
Welcome to the Mom on the Run Club. I hope you find this guide helpful!
